Are you afraid of going to the dentist? Does the idea of dental work send shivers down your spine? Do you find yourself anxious and stressed during your dental visit? Dental anxiety and dental phobia are very real struggles for many of our patients initially.
We’ve become experts at sedation for just that reason. Did you know that your neighbors have been coming to Caldwell Dental for Oral Conscious Sedation (a little pill we provide you an hour before your appointment) for over twenty years? Drs. Ty and Susan Caldwell were among the first California dentists to receive their Oral Conscious Sedation Licenses. Since then countless patients have enjoyed the benefits of relaxed, comfortable visits in our office. We’re confident you will receive the best dental experience of your life.
Nitrous oxide is also known as “laughing gas”. This gas is a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen, which is administered through a mask placed over your nose. Once inhaled, it begins to relax your mind and body. Benefits include:
It Works Very Fast | The gas reaches your brain within 20 seconds, and in two – three minutes, you’re ready to go.
Eliminated Quickly | Once application stops, your body can be rid of the gas in three – five minutes.
Drive Home | Because it is so quickly eliminated from your system you are able to drive home after your appointment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
If you need stronger sedation than nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation may be the answer. Oral sedation is given to you by the doctor as a small pill, and is usually taken at home, an hour prior to your procedure. Benefits include:
Relaxes Your Body | Oral conscious sedation allows you to relax to the point of being sleepy. Additionally, the pill helps you lose track of time and memory of the experience. It is common to hear a patient say: “I remember walking in and then I don’t remember much after that” or “How long was I there? Did they get all the work done already?”
No Shot | This sedation is taken orally, so there is no injection of medicine into your hand or arm.
How Does It Work?
When you come in for your appointment, we will discuss all your wants, needs and concerns. We’ll agree on what treatment needs to be done and how you would like to have it done. If sedation is of interest we’ll explain all the details and schedule your visit accordingly. Often, once patients have had some treatment with sedation they begin to trust us and find future appointments can be just fine without sedation. By the way, Dr Susan (as a patient) has her appointments with sedation just because it’s so safe and easy and she knows she can trust Dr Ty.
