Experience Complete Comfort

Sedation Dentistry Orange County

Unfortunately, many people let anxiety keep them from getting the dental care they need or want. Avoiding general dentistry services such as cleanings and exams can lead to preventable oral health problems, extensive corrective procedures, and large expenses. Sedation dentistry is a safe, easy, and needle-free way to undergo dental treatment without pain or discomfort. With sedation dentistry, offered at our Cypress-based practice, dental anxiety no longer has to be a problem. Drs. Ty and Susan Caldwell have been members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOC) for more than 10 years; Dr. Ty Caldwell has even completed an advanced training course in oral conscious sedation and is qualified to train other doctors.

Relax in Our Treatment Chair with Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry methods make it possible for our patients to enjoy an entirely relaxing and comfortable dental experience. Patients are never rushed through treatment; in fact, they are encouraged to take all the time they need to feel comfortable - and are even welcome to visit us prior to their appointment to discuss any concerns. On the day of treatment, our sedation dentistry patients are escorted to a dark treatment suite (that mimics a spa-like atmosphere) and receive a warm blanket, a sleep mask, and headphones that will play relaxing music or accompany a video. Our patients find that these amenities create a soothing environment so they are able to mentally "check out" while Drs. Ty and Susan Caldwell go to work.

Sedation Dentistry Candidates

You might be an appropriate candidate for sedation dentistry if you:

  • Feel fearful or anxious about necessary or elective dental treatment
  • Want to have several procedures performed during one appointment
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Have a heart condition and must avoid undue stress or anxiety
  • Have epilepsy (and therefore are sensitive to flashing lights)

Sedation Dentistry Methods

Our practice utilizes several sedation methods, depending on a patient's individual needs. Typically, we provide our patients with an oral sedative medication to take a few hours prior to the appointment. This medication causes the patient to drift into a completely relaxed state while remaining conscious and able to respond to the instructions of our doctors and staff members. Please note that patients who take oral sedative medication will need a ride to and from the appointment.

Inhalable nitrous oxide sedation is available at no additional cost for patients who require a more concentrated dose of sedation. Oral medication does not reduce the pain associated with some procedures, so local anesthesia may be administered to eliminate any discomfort.

Before any sedative medication is administered, a computerized drug interaction test using the Lexi-Comp™ program is performed to check for any interactions with current medication.

This remarkable software allows us to help many patients prevent possible medical emergencies.
